What is a Preposition?

Preposition হল এমন একটি শব্দ, যা Noun, Pronoun বা Gerund-এর সাথে বাক্যের অন্য শব্দের সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে। এটি সাধারণত কোনো বস্তু, স্থান, সময় বা ভাবের সাথে কোনো ক্রিয়া বা অবস্থা সম্পর্কিত করার জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয়। Preposition শব্দটি মূলত ল্যাটিন থেকে এসেছে, যার অর্থ “সম্মুখে স্থাপন করা,” অর্থাৎ এটি সাধারণত Noun বা Pronoun-এর আগে বসে।

Example:
– “She is sitting on the chair.”
(সে চেয়ারের উপর বসে আছে।)
– “The book is on the table.”
(বইটি টেবিলের উপর রয়েছে।)
– “He is studying at TalentHut.”

Classifications and Uses of Prepositions

১. Prepositions of Place (স্থান নির্দেশক Preposition)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো বস্তু বা ব্যক্তির অবস্থান নির্দেশ করা হয়।

(বিড়ালটি টেবিলের নিচে রয়েছে।)
– “He is in the classroom.”
(সে শ্রেণীকক্ষে আছে।)
– “The ESL books are on the shelf.”
(ESL বইগুলি তাকের উপর রয়েছে।)

২. Prepositions of Time (সময় নির্দেশক Preposition)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো কাজের সময় বা সময়কাল নির্দেশ করা হয়।

(ক্লাস সকাল ৯টায় শুরু হয়।)

৩. Prepositions of Direction (দিক নির্দেশক Preposition)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর গমন বা গতিপথ নির্দেশ করা হয়।

(সে বাজারে যাচ্ছে।)
– “He walked into the room.”
(সে ঘরে প্রবেশ করল।)

৪. Prepositions of Manner (প্রকৃতি নির্দেশক Preposition)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো কাজের প্রকৃতি বা কার্যপ্রণালী নির্দেশ করা হয়।

Examples:
– “She solved the problem with ease.”
(সে সমস্যাটি সহজেই সমাধান করেছে।)
– “He works with dedication.”
(সে নিষ্ঠার সাথে কাজ করে।)

৫. Prepositions of Reason or Purpose (কারণ বা উদ্দেশ্য নির্দেশক Preposition)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো কাজের কারণ বা উদ্দেশ্য নির্দেশ করা হয়।

– “He was punished for his mistake.”
(তাকে তার ভুলের জন্য শাস্তি দেওয়া হয়।)

এই Preposition-এর মাধ্যমে কোনো ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর মালিকানা বা অধিকার নির্দেশ করা হয়।

What is a Prepositional Phrase?

Prepositional Phrase হল এমন একটি শব্দগুচ্ছ, যা একটি Preposition দিয়ে শুরু হয় এবং একটি Object (Noun, Pronoun, or Gerund) দ্বারা শেষ হয়। Prepositional Phrase বাক্যে Adjective বা Adverb হিসেবে কাজ করে এবং মূলত বাক্যের স্থান, সময়, কারণ, বা পদ্ধতি নির্দেশ করে।

Example:
– “She sat on the chair.”
(সে চেয়ারে বসেছিল।)
– “He is interested in learning English at TalentHut.”

১. Prepositional Phrase as an Adjective (Adjective হিসেবে Prepositional Phrase)

Prepositional Phrase কোনো Noun বা Pronoun-এর পূর্বে বসে সেটিকে বর্ণনা করতে পারে, যা Adjective-এর ভূমিকা পালন করে।

(টেবিলের উপর থাকা বইটি আমার।)
– “The students in the classroom are preparing for the IELTS exam.”

২. Prepositional Phrase as an Adverb (Adverb হিসেবে Prepositional Phrase)

Prepositional Phrase কোনো Verb, Adjective, বা অন্য Adverb-এর পূর্বে বসে সেটিকে বর্ণনা করতে পারে, যা Adverb-এর ভূমিকা পালন করে।

Example:
– “She speaks with confidence.”
(সে আত্মবিশ্বাসের সাথে কথা বলে।)
– “He is studying at TalentHut.”

– “They arrived on time for the ESL class.”
